Feed a Family of Four $9 a Day!
Yes, it’s true. An event that occurred at a McDonald’s while picking up a coffee a few months ago has had me baffled for some time. A father and son in the covid line, ahead of me were ordering there lunch to go. No biggie, except the price. So a big Mac, fries and diet coke for dad, a happy meal for the boy. $30… This is lunch for 2 people!!
That’s US dollars folks! Back to the topic. $3000 can absolutely feed your family healthy, nutritious and delicious meals for a year. Based on the fast food numbers, poor shopping decisions and bad habits, your likely spending 3 times this! So the question becomes, “Brent MacGillivray, how do I do this”? Easier than you think. Start by limiting the number of times you eat out in a week to once. Eliminate the fast food restaurant, or limit it to once a month. Your other outings should be reserved for unique, local and privately owned restaurants. Second, start cooking! No more frozen entrees and packaged foods. Buy local, in season foods. If you don’t know how to cook, learn! As a third suggestion, because of time restraints, try a meal delivery service. Still cheaper and healthier than dine out or delivery. Subscript, avoid delivery at all costs, way to expensive.
In a world seemingly gone mad, it’s time to put things in perspective. The good ol’days of yesteryear might not have been perfect, but at least they were more sensible. Makes cent’s? Watch the pennies and save the dollars. Cliche, indeed, but truth. Think about it, and what you can do with the money you save. Children’s education, a nice gift for your spouse, a vacation….etc. Anyway, cheers and happy economical cooking! Visit me at http://www.scratchtours.com for that vacation. Won’t be long before we can travel again, God willing!
